PMCB Student Funding
University of Florida offers a number of funding opportunities to PMCB students:
Research Assistantships
Assistantships usually carry a stipend of approximately $22,000 for each 12-month year, depending on funding sources. Assistantships also include a tuition waiver. Students on research assistantships need to take 24 credits annually (9 each Fall and Spring; 6 in Summer C). Students may also be responsible for payment of student fees (approximately $1,000 annually). Students are required to maintain a GPA of at least 3.0.
Alumni Awards
Alumni Graduates represent the the highest graduate student award available at University of Florida. Funded at nationally competitive levels, these highly prestigious awards support students in all programs and departments of University of Florida awarding a Ph.D. or MFA.
Successful applicants have outstanding undergraduate preparation, a strong commitment to their field of study, and demonstrated potential in research and creative activities. It provides a full 4 years of support through a nationally competitive stipend and tuition waiver for qualifying students. Currently, the Alumni Fellowship stipend is $22,000 per year.
Grinter Fellowship
This fellowship helps recruit truly exceptional graduate students to the University of Florida. Ordinarily, the Grinter Fellowship is limited to Ph.D. students. Stipends are normally $2,000 to $4,000. More information...
GEM Fellowship
The Genomics, Education and Metabolomics (GEM) Fellowship Program at the University of Florida has a highly-regarded team of 16 faculty whose expertise are in functional genomics, metabolomics, bioinformatics, statistics, critical thinking, and ethics. PMCB offered 3 Ph.D. fellowships for Fall 2009. GEMs aims to enhance the critical thinking and problem solving capacity of graduate students as they develop fundamental new knowledge of crop genomes. Fellows participate in a common set of courses and training experiences.
GEM Fellowships are $24,000 per year. Funding was provided by the Cooperative State Research, Education, and Extension Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture, under Agreement No. 2008-38420-18736.
All fellowships have been awarded. No GEMs fellowships are available for Fall 2010.
