University of Florida

Admissions

Admission deadline for Fall is January 15, 2010.

PMCB Requirements

Traditionally, PMCB program applicants have a B.S. or M.S. in the biological or chemical sciences with advanced undergraduate coursework in genetics, molecular and cellular biology, and biochemistry. However, outstanding students from a broad range of science and engineering disciplines are actively considered.

Admission to the PMCB Program is highly competitive. The minimum requirements for admission to the Plant Molecular and Cellular Biology (PMCB) Program at the University of Florida are:

  1. A combined score of 1,100 on the verbal and quantitative portions of the Graduate Record Examination (GRE). A specialty exam on the GRE is not required.
  2. A 3.0 grade point average on a 4.0 scale for work completed in undergraduate junior and senior years.
  3. For non-US applicants ONLY
    1. scores of 550 (paper), 213 (computer) or 80 (internet) on the TOEFL exam.
    2. a score greater than 350 on the verbal portion of the GRE.

Rotation assistantships and university fellowships are awarded to students entering in the Fall semester only. Students are only admitted in the Spring and Summer semesters if they are in contact with a professor that agrees to take them directly into their lab.
